Our Philosophy...

We have been raising AKC registered Goldens for several years.  Our puppies are placed in homes where they will be loved and treated as a family member, and companion, although our pedigrees reflect puppies with field, obedience, and show backgrounds.  We take great pride and realize the esteemed compliment paid to us when our puppy owners call us for that next puppy, and/or recommend us to friends, relatives, and their co-workers.  And we enjoy receiving emails and photos from our puppy homes with updates and news about all the new adventures of that baby, too!  Of course, even if that "baby" is now an adult dog -- we love getting updates through the years as they grow =8-)  We don't have room here to share all of those photos and correspondence, but we are sharing some on this web site which we hope gives you an idea of a typical Maple Ridge puppy owner's comments about their puppy and their experience buying a puppy from us :-)   To read some owner comments, just click the link "References" on the menu at the left =8-)

We have owned five generations of one bloodline, and four generations of another ... and we can see how certain physical traits and personality characteristics pass from one generation to another in our Goldens.  We believe our special love for Goldens, all started with my grandfather who earned his Diploma from the Veterinary Science Association.    We share his deep love for animals.  Our Maple Ridge Goldens are "Raised with TLC" - The care, health, and well-being of our Golden family members is very important to us, and we can't imagine ever not having a Golden at our side, on our lap, sharing the sofa with us, or having their big brown eyes looking up at you  :-)

Litter parents are AKC registered, and litter parents are out of quality bloodlines with multiple generations of "genes" behind them of ancestors who were certified clear for Hip Dysplasia (OFA), have normal eyes/hearts,  etc.    We feed premium foods and provide a health guarantee with every puppy :-).  All Maple Ridge Golden puppy buyers receive Puppy Information Kits with information on puppy care, health, training, and tips to assist in the smooth transition of your new canine family member.   Shipping is also available in the continental United States if you need that service, and your new puppy will be carefully transported from Indianapolis Int'l Airport via major airlines.  Please let us know if you would like to have your puppy shipped :-)   To reserve a puppy, just click the link "Reserving A  Puppy" on our web menu to find out how you can reserve a special puppy just for you!

Our dogs and puppies live inside / outside lives in a country setting -- with woods, stream, pastures, and yard for plenty of exercise.  We have fenced play space for unsupervised outdoor play times, too.  Fresh Air and Sunshine are an important part of every day here at Maple Ridge.  The dogs we own are crate trained, take walks on a leash, and respond to basic obedience commands.  We Hug'em and we Luv'em, big and small, young and old, and they "own" our heart and soul forever :-)

We are members of local, national, and international Golden clubs, a Golden rescue club, as well as CERF (Canine Eye Research Foundation).

And, we believe that we must also continue to do whatever we can for Goldens who are not of our breeding but who still need and richly deserve our helping hand.

So, in addition to paying our membership dues, annually we "sponsor" a special needs Rescue Golden at DVGRR.  We are also donating additional funds by purchasing dedicated "Bridge Bricks" in honor of those we loved who have passed to Rainbow Bridge - be they two legged, or four legged family members :-)   We chose DVGRR as the main beneficiary of our donation help for Rescue Goldens because we support their efforts and desire the success of their new facility, Golden Gateway.  Golden Gateway is a Half-way Home for DVGRR's Rescue Goldens.  We hope you will check out their website sometime and do what you can to help Goldens in need at DVGRR, too.  DVGRR has wonderful items to sell on-line, at minimal cost to you, and your purchase or donations will help support DVGRR's efforts at Golden Gateway.  Or, you can pay for a membership and receive their newsletters knowing your dues will support a worthy cause dedicated to helping Goldens.  For more information or on-line shopping at DVGRR, that link is:   www.dvgrr.org

The Golden Retriever Club of America provides an excellent on-line resource called "Acquiring A Golden Retriever" which covers a wide variety of topics, including health issues that affect the Golden Retriever breed, what to look for in a breeder / a puppy, etc.   That link is:  www.grca.org   and click on "Searching for A Golden?"  then click the sub-menu, "Acquiring..."

A Golden is happiest knowing they make YOU happy =8-)  Please train them using lots of praise, and reward them every time they "get it right"  (come when called, sit when asked, etc.)   Above all, please remember your Golden loves being with YOU -- do not banish them to a lonesome existence outside ... and all alone :-(   These are wonderful companions.  There's really no other breed that compares with a Golden's desire to please you, and a Golden's natural abilities to enjoy all types of activities with you  (from hiking, camping, they love WATER!, or just being a couch potato) =8-)  They "talk" with those wonderful big brown eyes.  They "smile" with a nod, a wag, and some truly seem to have a smile on those goofy faces we all love so much =8-)  They are there to help people with times we are sad and need a special friend.  And, they are there to bounce and wriggle with joy as we celebrate the good times of our lives.  Most of all ... they seem to know just what to do to show their loyalty and love us for a lifetime =8-)   I could go on about these Goldens that I love so very very much  ........

No matter what breed/s you are considering, be sure to "google" for the national breed club for that type of dog.  Most national web pages will provide a wealth of information about their breed.  Or, you can go to the AKC's web page www.akc.org and click on "Breeds" to learn more about Goldens or other purebred dog breeds.  Be sure to read and give thought to descriptions about what the breed's personality, care, etc and whether they are good with children.  A beagle who roams and leaves home is not a bad dog -- he is just doing what he is supposed to do ... following a scent with his nose :-)  A rat terrier who digs a lot is not being a bad dog -- he is just doing what he is supposed to do ... digging for rodents, etc. :-)  Goldens are intended to be a companion dog that retrieves -- so when they bring you a sock from the laundry basket they are just doing what they are designed to do - retrieve things and be with you =8-)  The AKC site will tell you more about each breed's "special work / purpose" which they are intended to do ... make sure the breed you choose is the size/traits/and "work" that is best suited to your situation.  Please know that -- Dogs Don't Lie.  They ARE who they are meant to be :-)  And above all, Dogs love unconditionally --- be sure you do, too =8-)

Thank you for taking time to read through this page.  We hope the information shared is helpful in your search for a new pet.   We love Golden Retrievers very much.  We take our role as breeders of the next generation of Goldens seriously.  We dedicate a great deal of love, time, energy, and commitment in everything we do for Golden Retrievers.  We appreciate your taking time to learn more about what makes us "tick."  And we appreciate this opportunity to share more about Our Philosophy on this page, and throughout our web presence.  We are looking forward to hearing from you.  =8-).

Thanks for stopping by and ...Best Wishes in All Things Golden!
